What WAI is: the pipeline, the registered capabilities, the reference implementation and how the standard is governed.

  • Why WAI /why/

Why WAI is built for a sink that computes: the eras of delivery, the path hop by hop, and where each part stands.

  • Codec glossary /glossary/

A reference survey of media codecs, with the ones WAI registers marked.

Specification

  • Specification /spec/

WAI is a container + capability dispatch standard.

  • Extensions /extensions/

Every WAI extension, grouped by topic and mirrored from the canonical text.

  • Avatars (Digital Humans) /extensions/avatars/

Motion as instructions: ship a signed stream of joint transforms — a skeleton, not a video of a body — and the sink skins a mesh by the deterministic pose.

  • Capability Constraints /extensions/capability-constraints/

Makes capability dispatch (WAI SPEC.md §4) a precondition check rather than a binary claim, by ingesting the constraint-set grammar and register pattern the broadcast-IP world already ratified.

  • Confidentiality (MLS + SFrame) /extensions/confidentiality/

This extension makes a WAI payload private.

  • Derived Tracks /extensions/derived-tracks/

Registers the derivation operations of ISO/IEC 23001-16:2021 as wai.derive.* capability strings, each with a per-operation determinism tier, and states how a tier composes over a derived sample.

  • Determinism Tiers for Neural Decode /extensions/determinism-tiers/

Names the spectrum of reproducibility guarantees a neural capability can make, so a manifest can declare which one it satisfies and a verifier knows what it may check.

  • Energy Binding /extensions/energy-binding/

Binds the energy a reconstruction cost to that reconstruction, as a companion to C2PA 2.4's c2pa.environmental-sustainability assertion.

  • Energy Measurement /extensions/energy-measurement/

Specifies how a joule figure is acquired, so that the joules_micro field the receipt profiles carry means the same thing in two independent implementations.

  • Haptics /extensions/haptics/

Touch as instructions: ship a keyframed intensity/sharpness envelope, the sink reconstructs an actuator signal.

  • Interactive Worlds /extensions/interactive-worlds/

This extension registers a cargo class for interactive worlds: media that consumes input.

  • JWP Receipt Chain /extensions/jwp-receipts/

This extension defines a JWP-shaped receipt chain that attests per-object delivery of WAI envelope objects through a chain of relays.

  • Linear Film /extensions/linear-film/

Ship a feature not as pixels but as the world that generates it (a sealed wai.world.replay) plus a camera track and a frame schedule.

  • MoQ Streaming Format /extensions/moq-streaming-format/

Declares WAI as a streaming format over Media over QUIC Transport, so a WAI envelope is a first-class MOQT object rather than an opaque payload inside someone else's container.

  • OER Receipts (outcome and energy) /extensions/oer-receipts/

An OER receipt records what one unit of work was, what it cost, how that cost is graded, and what it rests on.

  • Prior Carriage /extensions/prior-carriage/

Registers the wire forms a pin's digest may cover.

  • Asset Provenance /extensions/provenance/

WAI does not reconstruct the asset; it carries the opaque bytes and a signed, energy-accounted lineage.

  • Quantum-Operations Attestation (wai.quantum.calibration · wai.quantum.job) /extensions/quantum-ops/

The verify-half of WAI (wai.asset.provenance's lineage, specialized) applied to the quantum processing industry.

  • Quantum-Circuit Simulation /extensions/quantum-sim/

A quantum computation shipped as instructions, not outcomes.

  • Reproducible-Reconstruction Binding /extensions/reconstruction-binding/

A cryptographic hard binding over the deterministically decoded pixels of a neural-coded asset.

  • Score (Music as Instructions) /extensions/score/

Ship the composition, not the recording: a score of note events the sink synthesizes.

  • Object-Based Spatial Audio /extensions/spatial-audio/

The audio analog of interactive-worlds: ship sound objects + a scene, render to the listener's own layout.

  • State-Feeds /extensions/state-feeds/

State as instructions: ship a signed op log of typed-field updates — a scoreboard, a telemetry stream, a market tape — not a recorded video of a dashboard.

  • Task Fidelity /extensions/task-fidelity/

Names the contract for media whose correctness is a downstream model's behaviour, not a byte comparison — the class determinism-tiers cannot express.

  • Balanced-Ternary MPS Transform (wai.ternary.tt) /extensions/ternary-tt/

    A quantum-inspired (tensor-network), classical, deterministic transform.

  • Transparency Emission /extensions/transparency/

Adds an external encoding for WAI receipts so a party with no WAI tooling can check them, and a registration profile so a receipt's existence is independently witnessed.

  • Unidirectional Delivery /extensions/unidirectional-delivery/

Covers bearers with no return path — terrestrial broadcast, satellite, and multicast object carriage — where the sink receives and can never answer.

  • Volumetric / 4D Splats /extensions/volumetric/

A scene that is volumetric and moves: ship a Gaussian cloud as per-Gaussian keyframed tracks, the sink interpolates the cloud at any frame and renders it with the EWA pipeline.

Demonstrations

  • Demonstrations /demos/

The reference implementation compiled to WebAssembly and run in the browser, one page per capability.

  • Integer video /video/

An integer inter-frame clip: integer block motion compensation plus an integer-quantized residual, decoded in the tab, with every frame's checksum re-checked against the native reference.

  • Several classes in one envelope /everything/

One reel carries a sealed world, the reel's camera shots and an embedded score.

  • Learned image /int_hyper/

A pretrained mean-scale hyperprior image codec, post-training-quantized to integers and decoded entirely in integer arithmetic in the tab, then checked byte for byte against the native reference.

  • JPEG AI decode /jpegai/

The ISO/IEC 6048 entropy decode run in the tab on a stream from the standard's reference encoder: the decoded symbols reproduce on every machine and are checked against the native reference.

  • Learned audio /audio-codec/

A small learned 1-D audio codec — integer transposed-convolution synthesis and integer IGDN over a factorized-rANS latent — decoded to 16-bit PCM in the tab, checked against the native reference, then played.

  • Learned 3D /splat/

A learned Gaussian-splat attribute codec with integer synthesis, decoded to the per-Gaussian attribute tensor in the tab and checked against the native reference.

  • Worlds /worlds/

A sealed interactive session re-derives every state from its signed ops and converges to one state hash on every machine.

  • World model /world-model/

Drive a small integer world model with the arrow keys.

  • Film /film/

A film generated from a world travels as that world, a camera track and a frame schedule.

  • Volumetric /volumetric/

A moving Gaussian cloud carried as per-Gaussian keyframed tracks, interpolated and re-hashed frame by frame in the fixed-point floor.

  • Avatar /avatar/

A skeletal pose stream: bone transforms replay to one pose hash and skin a glTF mesh.

  • Spatial audio /audio/

Sound objects and a scene, mixed for a declared layout in the fixed-point floor.

  • Score /score/

Music as note events, rendered to a canonical mixdown by a fixed-point synth; a soundfont is the sink's presentation.

  • Haptics /haptics/

Touch as a keyframed intensity and sharpness envelope, rebuilt to actuator samples that hash identically on every sink.

  • State feeds /feed/

Typed state — a scoreboard, telemetry, a tape — carried as signed updates that converge to one hash whatever the arrival order.

  • Deterministic generation /generate/

A prompt and seed drive a fixed-point spectral synthesizer, so the same inputs produce the same image bytes on every machine.

  • Telepresence /telepresence/

Two tabs sign skeletal ops over a WebSocket relay and converge on the same pose hash.

  • Shared world /world-shared/

    Two tabs co-drive one world.

  • Private channel /private-channel/

An MLS group derives a shared SFrame key; object payloads are sealed before publishing over a WebSocket bridge, so the relay forwards only ciphertext.

  • Provenance /provenance/

A signed, content-addressed lineage for content WAI does not rebuild.

  • Attested streaming session /video-ott/

A per-session manifest rendered as a function of the session class — ad breaks, blackouts and regional rules applied — and sealed in a receipt that binds the grant, the composition and the policy.

  • The course /quantum-learn/

A course in quantum algorithmic design on classical hardware.

  • Born machine /quantum-ml/

A quantum circuit Born machine trained in the tab on a classical state vector by the exact parameter-shift gradient, learning a distribution that needs interference; then the barren-plateau limit, made measurable.

  • Quantum circuit /quantum-sim/

A gate op-log simulated classically in fixed-point arithmetic; the reconstructed statevector is checked against the native reference.

  • Quantum IDE /quantum-ide/

Build or load a circuit, run it on the classical simulator in the tab, and inspect amplitudes, entanglement, measurement statistics and the recommended backend.

  • Autonomous calibration /quantum-cal/

Calibration routines — Rabi, Ramsey, randomized benchmarking, readout, cross-resonance, DRAG and robust optimal control — each recovering a hidden parameter of a simulated device and sealing a signed calibration receipt.

  • Filter-function control /quantum-control/

Noise spectroscopy reconstructs a hidden dephasing spectrum from a dynamical-decoupling filter bank; filter-function control then reshapes the sequence against that spectrum.

  • Noise learning /quantum-noise/

Learns a sparse Pauli–Lindblad noise model from a simulated twirled-cycle experiment and seals it; a probabilistic-error-cancellation run then binds that exact model by its hash.

  • Error mitigation /quantum-mitigate/

Zero-noise extrapolation, tensored readout inversion and classical shadows, each recovering an ideal expectation from a simulated noisy front end and sealing a receipt that binds the raw data, noise-model hash, method and seed to the estimate.

  • qLDPC decoding /quantum-qec/

A fixed-point Relay-BP decoder for quantum LDPC codes, including the toric code and a bivariate-bicycle code.

  • Circuit compilation /quantum-compile/

Routes a Clifford circuit onto a coupling graph, proves the routed circuit equivalent to the source with a stabilizer-tableau check, and seals a certificate; the same check rejects a tampered circuit.

  • Atom rearrangement /quantum-rearrange/

A linear-sum-assignment solver plans the moves that turn a partly filled trap array into a defect-free register, sealing a plan whose success verdict can be re-checked and rejecting a tampered one.

  • Bill of materials /quantum-qbom/

The stage receipts of one computation — a proven routing, a calibration, an atom register, a mitigation, a decode — assembled into one signed, content-addressed manifest.

  • Quantum operations /quantum-ops/

Seal a signed, content-addressed receipt of a calibration run or a job under a grant, then watch verification fail when a field is tampered with or the grant's budget is exceeded.
